Principal Dr Irene Irvine

Irene is a highly experienced senior executive and company director widely respected for her strategic, critical and innovative thinking, her business development and marketing nous and her commercial acumen. She is also known for her quick wit and keen sense of humour.

Dr Irene IrvinePrior to establishing I Irvine & Associates in 2009 to allow her to share her consulting and board expertise more broadly Irene held a series of senior management positions in the education, not for profit, government and commercial sectors. The most recent of these was five highly successful years as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Development) with Deakin University where she was responsible for devising, executing and co-ordinating its highly regarded marketing and business development activities.

Before joining Deakin Irene spent over 30 years in public and private sector employment in Canberra and Melbourne including periods in a senior capacity for Swinburne and Melbourne universities as well as CSIRO, the not for profit entity Interact Australia and the recruitment company Morgan and Banks.  All of these roles involved marketing and business development as well as extensive management responsibilities.

Over the years Irene has held a number of directorships in both a voluntary and a paid capacity resulting in her becoming an experienced chairperson, board member and board reviewer. At the present time Irene is Deputy Chair of Zoos Victoria, a Director of State Trustees and the Australian Open Garden Scheme and a member of the Council of Melbourne Girls’ College. Prior to this she served for ten years on the Board of Craft Victoria and Camberwell Girl’s Grammar School.

Irene also acts as a key advisor on the education sector to Jo Fisher Executive, one of Australia’s premier Executive Search Consultancies.

A former school teacher Irene started her paid professional life as a research chemist and holds a Ph D in chemistry from the University of Melbourne, a B Sc (1st Class Honours) from the University of Glasgow as well as post graduate qualifications in education from the University of Melbourne and management from the University of Canberra. She is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Australian Institute of Management and a past Fellow, medal winner and Hartung Lecturer of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute.

Senior Associate Professor John (Iain) Wallace

Iain Wallace has had over forty years employment experience in universities in Australia, the United Kingdom and the USA.

prof-iain-wallaceIain’s long career in universities has seen him occupy with distinction the complete spectrum of academic roles from lecturer to Head of Department and School, Dean of a Faculty, Pro and Deputy Vice-Chancellor and ultimately Vice-Chancellor.

Iain’s last academic role was as Vice-Chancellor of Swinburne University in Melbourne. He successfully developed that institution (over a 17 year period) from an Institute of Technology to a university with a formidable research reputation in defined areas.

Known for his intellect, strategic and lateral thinking and problem solving ability Professor Wallace acts as an advisor to I Irvine & Associates thus allowing clients to benefit from his extensive expertise.
